for the renewal of the register of a medical practitioner: • if the term of registration of a medical practitioner wishes to be renewed within five years from the day when the term of registration in the Register has expired: copies of the submission\/form “request for re-registration or renewal of the Register” and documents certifying information attached thereto regarding acquisition or improvement of professional knowledge or skills within the last five years prior to the day of receipt of such submission in the Health Inspectorate: - in the profession of physician, dentist, physician assistant (paramedic), dental assistant, cosmetician, radiologist assistant, biomedical assistant, masseur, dental hygienist, physiotherapist, audiologoped, ergotherapist, technical orthopaedic, optometrist, physiotherapist assistant, ergotherapist assistant, nutritionist, dental technician, podologist, radiographer, art therapist, military paramedic, beauty specialist (beautician) for a period of at least 150 academic hours during the registration period, including the improvement of professional knowledge in the provision of emergency medical assistance or a copy of the document attached thereto regarding the successful completion of the professional conformity examination in the relevant profession; - sisters, midwives or Mas in the profession of assistant as – in the amount of at least 100 academic hours during the term of registration, including improvement of professional knowledge in the provision of emergency medical assistance or a copy of the document attached thereto regarding the successful completion of the professional conformity examination in the relevant profession; • if the term of the register of a medical practitioner wishes to be renewed within a time period which is longer than five years, from the day when the term of registration in the register has expired: the application\/form “request for re-registration or renewal of the register” and a copy of the document accompanying it regarding the successful completion of the professional conformity examination in the relevant profession. 1. For information on educational establishments where professional compliance checks can be passed, read more: https:\/\/www.vi.gov.lv\/lv\/arstniecibas-un-atbalsta-personu-registracija • a medical practitioner, for whom the term of registration has expired, but who has performed professional activities outside the Republic of Latvia in a Member State of the European Economic area or in the Swiss Confederation for not less than three years in the last five years in the profession or in one of the basic specialities, sub-specialities or additional specialities of the profession, has the right to renew registration by submitting a submission to the Health Inspectorate with a request to renew the term of registration in the Register. The submission shall indicate the given name, surname, identifier of the medical practitioner, the profession in which renewal of the registration term is necessary and the following documents shall be appended: - an employer's statement or other document regarding the professional activity performed, in which the profession, position and time period during which the professional activity was performed are indicated; - a certificate of the right to pursue a professional activity (for example, certificate of good Standing) issued by the competent institution of the country in which the medical practitioner has pursued his professional activity. Military paramedics must submit approval from the Joint Headquarters of the national Armed Forces in addition to the application\/form “request for re-registration or renewal of the Register.” 1.2. a submission shall be submitted for renewal of the register of a medical practitioner support person in which the given name, surname, identifier and profession of the medical practitioner support person shall be indicated, in which extension of the term of registration and a vocational improvement education certificate regarding acquisition of a licensed vocational improvement education programme in matters of data protection of patients shall be required in the amount (copy) of at least eight hours or the original of this document shall be presented. Receipt of services Within one month after receipt of all the necessary documents the Health Inspectorate shall take a decision regarding registration of a medical practitioner or medical treatment support person or regarding refusal to register a medical practitioner or medical treatment support person shall inform the person: 1) electronically, to the electronic mail address indicated in the submission\/form “request for re-registration or renewal of the Register”; 2) by post to the address indicated in the submission\/form “request for re-registration or renewal of the Register”; 3) face-to-face - in the Health Inspectorate, during the indicated working hours.

Decisions issued by public authorities in Latvia may be contested in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Law. In accordance with the by-law of the Health Inspectorate, decisions and actual actions of officials of the Health Inspectorate may be contested by submitting a relevant submission to the head of the Health Inspectorate (Clyan Street 7, Riga, LV-1012)
